Personal & Professional Background: Tell Us About Mairin McEwan
My name is Mairin and I am 45 years old, I am a wife, a mom of 2 teenagers and 4 dogs. I studied Tourism and Hotel Administration and then moved to Paris / Madrid to complete my Master´s Degree in European Business Administration. I have more than 12 years of experience in the bank industry but when my kids entered the teenage stage I decided I needed to be more present in their lives. This was the breakpoint and the first step for me to start getting into the virtual world.
I worked for a company as a legal assistant. I didn’t like it much because my boss was very messy and there were always things left behind. I changed to a Real Estate company as a virtual property manager assistant, I had to do a lot and the property manager was always absent, unsupportive and never followed procedures, so I was not able to complete my work because of me being abroad. Then I finally found PowerPlacing and was hired to be an account manager for a cleaning company that had just bought a landscaping company. I had no clue on how this industry worked, but I found an awesome team with great leaders that helped me and trained me since day 1. At this point, and after 3 years looking for a great place to work, I finally realized that I had found what I was looking for.
Why Did You Choose To Work With PowerPlacing?
I decided to pursue a career here for several reasons, the most important of which are:
- Their core values: they are in line with the life values that have been instilled in me. As human beings we have the responsibility to lead a dignified life that allows us to be good people who help their community and above all serve as role models for our families.
- The company’s vision of bringing Latin American talent forward: I firmly believe that we have great talents in our region, but due to lack of opportunities they are undervalued. PowerPlacing makes it possible day by day that entire families have the possibility to improve their lives without the need to migrate leaving everything behind.
- The best leaders: Throughout my years of experience I have had several types of bosses, but they all had one vision and that was that the job had to be done at any cost. Today I can say that here I found what I had always been looking for, the balance between my personal and professional life. My bosses invite us to first be well with ourselves, both mentally and physically, and then put all the necessary effort into our daily work.
I can say that in them I found inspiration, leadership, accompaniment and above all two great friends who accompany me day by day and care about my well-being and that of my family.
How Have You Grown Since Being Part Of This Team – Both Personally and Professionally
I cannot calculate how much I have grown personally and professionally, my leaders push me to the maximum so that I can discover how far I can go, I have achieved things that I never imagined I could do. Now, thanks to them, I am a better person.
How Would You Describe Culture You’ve Helped Create Here?
Without a doubt PowerPlacing is made by all of us, it is a community where everyone has the freedom to express their ideas and we all listen. We learn together from the talents of the team and put into practice new techniques, thanks to the infinity of talents that make up this beautiful team.
In Your Words: Why Should Someone Consider Working With Virtual Talent In Latin America?
Latin America has a large and diverse talent pool of skilled professionals. With a population of more than 650 million people, the region produces many talented individuals with strong technical and creative skills. Salaries and cost of living in many Latin American countries are lower compared to the US, making them an attractive option for companies looking to save costs.
Latin Americans are fluent in English, which can make communication and collaboration with North American teams much more fluid. Many Latin American countries share cultural similarities with North America, including similar business practices and work ethics. This can make it easier for companies to establish effective communication and build relationships with their Latin American teams.
